2010 YM/YW Activity

This year the Thursday activities will be focused on YM: the purposes of the Aaronic priesthood and YW: You are a Daughter of God. During the Young Women/Young Men breakout sessions, we will be focusing on the theme I Am A Child Of God. As a BC you have the opportunity to teach the youth about helping them realize they are a Child of God and the blessings that come from it.

Your main responsibilities will be to give the Introduction and Wrap Up of the panel discussion. You will also be facilitating and putting together a panel discussion group. You will be choosing counselors for the panel which will consist of for the YW: 3 boy counselors, 1 girl counselor and vice versa for the YM. We challenge you to take some time to prepare for this opportunity, to share your testimony being A Child of God with the youth. This is one of the few chances that you have to directly teach the youth. The youth can tell between a lesson that is “thrown together last minute” and a lesson that is “prepared and guided by the Spirit”. We have attached the outline for the activity below. You can find additional details in the Participant section of your manual p.41-49. Read the following attachment before you look at the manual. The attachment will help clarify.(click below or see attachment to email)

2010 YWYM

We would like each of you to work on your Introduction and Wrap Ups for this activity. Please share (by commenting on the blog or emailing us) a scripture or quote from a talk (by a General Authority) or both that pertains to the topic of YM: the purposes of the Aaronic priesthood and YW: You are a Daughter of God, that you find may be of benefit to you in your preparation. We have been instructed to use only the scriptures and conference talks. Please try and respond to this email/post by Sunday.

Also, as far as the panels are concerned, remember your responsibility to create a climate of revelation.

“As a facilitator, we are to discourage any sharing of sensitive personal experiences. Focus on the doctrine and principles presented in the Participant Handbook"

Next Two Weeks Assignment...Counselor Devo's

I mentioned last week that there were some things Robbie and I wanted you to do before our sessions begin. As BC's there may be some opportunities for you to teach the youth in place of a counselor who may be ill or having trouble. Just as we instruct our counselors, the best lessons are those that are 1. taught by the spirit, and 2. planned previously. As we were counselors we know that having a plan before teaching made the lesson go smoothly and gave way for more inspiration in teaching the youth. While I hope that all of counselors this summer will be well-equipped and able to teach every lesson themselves, this is not always possible, and we want you to be prepared! For the next two weeks, please go over the counselor devotionals. Just as previous years, the devotionals are taken from Preach My Gospel. We do not expect you to have an entire lesson prepared, but to have a simple outline, or bullets with scriptures and things you could use if need be. This will also be very useful when instructing your counselors to better teach the youth. This years counselor devotional topics are:
Monday: The Restoration
Tuesday: The Plan of Salvation
Wednesday: The Commandments
Thursday: The Gospel of Jesus Christ
Over the next two weeks take a few minutes to ponder and think about how you would teach the youth these topics. I will be doing the same. Please either email me or Robbie or post your ideas to our team Blog by next Friday, May 28th. It's so important for us all to be prepared before we begin.

Manual Assignments

I hope that Spring has found you happy and wonderful and ready for EFY! We have little over a month until our first session, and time will fly by until then. As promised, each of you have some pages in the manual to become 'experts' over and present to the rest of us at our team training which will be the weekend before our first session. I have listed each of your assignments below. You each have 2-3 pages in the manual and a day. Read about the basic duties expected for the day so you have a good grasp on what you'll be doing. (There may be a prize for the most creative presentation of manual material at training, you'll just have to see)

Natalie: p. A15-A17, Sat/Sun S2-S3
Brad: p. A18-A19, Mon S3-S7
Megan: p. A20-A21, Tues S7-S10
Parker: p. A22-A23, Wed S10-S11
Jess: p. A24-A25, Thurs S11-S14
Jake: p. A26-28, Fri/Sat S14-S17

Also, I sent an email a couple weeks ago about our team blog, and no one has posted a bio! Sad. Please, take a minute to complete a short bio and either email it to me or Robbie, or post it on our blog.
We'll be sending out emails periodically as we get closer to Santa Barbara.

E-Training

If you have not already, you should sign-up for an account on the efy e-training website.
In the next week, please go through your section of the training (it is very similar to your manual). We will start giving your more information and things that you will need to begin preparing for, but it is very important that you aware of your basic duties and expectations as outlined in the manual before we begin. If you have any questions about duties listed in the training or manual, please let us know. We are excited to get started on preparing for our summer ahead of us, and it will go much smoother later if we take small amounts of time now to prepare.

The link to the training is posted here:

The Blog is Created

I have created a different blog for our team because the other one was connected to my personal blog, which means I couldn't give you the password and log-in info so you can post things yourself. Anywho, it makes much more sense if you have the log-in info, and can respond and post questions and info about yourself.
We also be assigning parts of the handbook that you will need to become 'experts' on and teach the other members of the team at BC training before our first session, so stay tuned!

POST YOUR BIO'S, WW WANT TO LEARN ABOUT EVERYONE BEFORE THE SUMMER STARTS!
